The new Nokia N86 is a revamped version of the original Nokia N85 with some interesting new features. The first thing that we noticed is the upgraded camera. We all know that 5 Megapixels is so last year and so Nokia have opted to go for an improved 8 megapixel verison with auto focus-flash and a Carl Zeis optics lens. Will it do the business? We certainly hope so because there is some serious competition out there for 2009. Some phones that we see as competitors (in no particular order) are the Samsung Tocco ultra, the Sony Ericsson W995 and the HTC Magic. You could consider all these phones to be focussed towards the top end of the market, but we don’t expect the Nokia N86 to be all that cheap.

So what else can you expect for your money. Well you get the usual N-Series features such as Geo-tagging and GPS navigation, you also get slide out dedicated gaming keys. Nokia cannot seem to leave their N-Gage platform alone and continue to promote it through their N8 series of mobile phones.

One feature that we did like was the scratch resistant hardened glass front that prevents those awkward marks on the screen when you put your mobile phone in your pocket with your keys. The screen resolution is 240 x 320 pixels and has 8GB of internal storage, which you can expand via a micro SD slot.
Overall this is an improvement on the original Nokia N85, although we are not sure if it is altogether necessary. We would rather wait for the Nokia N97 to be released later this year.
