Sony Ericsson Aspen 2The upcoming release of Sony Ericsson’s Aspen is very much a continuance from the previous Xperia X1 and X2 featuring, as it does, the corporation’s third Windows mobile powered phone. The device is pencilled for release in the second quarter of this year and will also go by the name of Sony Ericsson Faith is some markets. The device itself is principally geared towards business users, and is packed with a whole range of high-end features to make these users happy.

Sony have utilised their Greenheart range of eco-friendly materials to produce the Aspen handset, meaning that most of the handset itself has been manufactured using recycled materials. In the green spirit there is also a bare minimum of packaging, a very good selling point in an increasingly eco-aware marketplace. Going even another step further the box in which the device comes contains no user manual as it is instead stored integrally on the phone itself in .pdf format. Because of this it is a good idea, on receipt of the phone, to copy the file for the instruction manual straight to your computer as this is a much more pain-free way to access the instructions in the event that something goes wrong with your phone than what you might face otherwise. It also negates the need to waste time trying to find the .pdf file for the manual on the Internet. The handset also features waterborne paint, which further enhances Greenheart’s green credentials. For those slightly newer to such things, waterborne paint is more environmentally friendly than the alternatives.

Sony Ericsson Aspen backThe Aspen, in terms of its appearance, looks somewhat similar to a traditional Blackberry device, with its QWERTY keyboard taking up four rows. The displays features a TFT touchscreen that displays anywhere up to 16 million colours in a display size of 2.4 inches across while the touchscreen capability gives a useful choice between the integral keyboard and the screen itself. Usefully the screen also supports handwriting recognition for those who prefer to write their messages in that format.

Ideally for Web browsing, the display comes with the auto-rotate function, allowing a choice of viewing angles and options. To fully utilise this, the Aspen has excellent connectivity and features quad band GSM, making it ideal for global coverage – essential for the business customers at whom the device is aimed. The Aspen also supports Bluetooth 2.1, and connects to a PC via a Micro USB connector. A drawback for some is that the onboard storage capacity stands at a paltry 100MB, though this can easily be upgraded with the use of MicroSD memory cards – via which the device will be able to store anything up to 16GB. To help provide a boost the device will supply its basic package with a 4GB memory card.

Again in keeping with the Aspen’s strong business credentials the device supports all of the major messaging platforms and also includes e-mail and push e-mail – extra-useful as it negates the need to continually sign in to your e-mail account in order to check for new e-mails. Instead, an alert will come up on the homepage alerting you to the fact that your account has receive new e-mail. This is a big plus for those multi-tasking on a range on apps all at once. There are also integral applications for YouTube, Skype, Facebook and Twitter, allowing easy and convenient access to a range of useful tools to enhance connectivity over the most popular sites used today.

Sony Ericsson AspenAnother excellent feature for business users is the inclusion of Pocket Office which allows the user to display a range of office documents on screen, including Word and Excel documents as well as PowerPoint and .pdf files. When you decide that you need a bit of a break from such high-powered professional machinations you can also access the media player that supports a range of formats such as WMA, MP3 and AAC audio files. The Aspen also features a stereo FM radio with full RDS support. There is also a capable ‘point ‘n’ shoot’ 3.2 megapixel camera which also allows video recording. Google Maps will also be pre-installed with all newly-shipped devices, making this an excellent high-performance all-rounder for the business person. It will be interesting to see how it performs against the handsets also due for release in the second quarter of 2010, though it is sure to be a strong contender on the market for those looking for a new and powerful business tool at their disposal.

Sony TabletSo far the two closest devices Sony electronics has to the Apple iPad is the E-Reader and the VAIO P. The E-Reader is similar to the iPad in general form, but specs wise, the eBook reader is hardly a match for the newly launched multi-purpose tablet. The VAIO P on the hand is a super slim net book; compared to the iPad, the VAIO P can do more things, but it still lacks that accessibility provided by the tablet.

In a recently held press conference in Tokyo, Sony’s chief financial officer was quoted saying that the Japanese company is very interested in the tablet market and that they have the “skills” to create a good product. Consider Sony’s history with amazing gadgets such as the Walkman, the Cybershot and the Playstation Portable, one can only expect nothing but an amazing hardware when they do decide to make a tablet.

Resource wise, the global electronics giant has more than enough to being working on tablet. If the iPad’s multi functionality seems like a tough hurdle, Sony can easily fill in demands for both eBook readers and video game players.

Sony already has the E-Reader and a vast library of content for tablet users. With the existing technology of the E-reader, they are also in a position of creating a familiar environment for readers on their tablet.

Video Games are a major aspect where Sony easily surpasses Apple. The company has many first party games developed for their console systems such as the Playstation 3 and the PSP. They also have great ties with existing developers and would find it easy to attract developers into their system; having a tablet that can access the existing PSN network and its contents (such as downloadable games) would also be an advantage.

Sony Ericsson HazelNow that global warming is starting to have various negative effects on the planet, many people are starting to take it a bit more seriously. We now know that various chemicals can contribute to the problem, and factories can contribute to this problem a lot. The new phone from Sony Ericsson, the Sony Ericsson Hazel has been designed as to cut down on emissions and become as Eco friendly as possible.

To start off, the phone is made from mainly recycled plastic, saving having to burn new molds and create poisonous gases which in turn are pleased into the atmosphere. It also helps you directly by saving you a bruit of money as the plastic is recycled. All mobile phones come with some sort of manual, and this manual can often be very thick and heavy, as it is often written in many languages. With the Sony Ericsson Hazel, the manual is built into the phone so instead of it being a hard copy it is electronic. Although this may be an annoyance to certain people, it helps to save a lot of paper, which contributes to help saving the rainforest.

Not only does the Hazel help the environment, it is also a great piece of equipment. Featuring a 5 megapixel camera, you will never experience bad quality photographs again, with built in face recognition and various lighting elements. Sony Ericsson Elm 2Imagine a series of mobile phones that are built and manufactured with the health of the environment in mind; this is the corner stone of Sony Ericsson’s GreenHeart phone series. The Japanese-Swedish tie-up has long expressed their commitment to the environment and for the reduction of CO2 emissions. The company has its own reduced emission rate that they are hoping to achieve with both their manufacturing processes and products by 2015.

The GreenHeart phone series is one of their largest steps by far; largest, in the sense that these are products for consumers and not just a production tweak. These phones are made using a combination of new and recycled parts and materials. In fact, phones made in these series are composed of at least 50% recycled plastics.

Also, no harmful chemicals are used in the creation of these devices –even the paint is water-borne. The packaging is also eco-friendly, they are made to be minimal in order to reduce the need for paper products and no manuals are printed. Instead, the manuals come in a digital e-manual format that can be accessed by the phone.

Sony Ericsson Hazel 1Just recently, two new phones have been announced for the series; the Sony Ericsson Elm and the Sony Ericsson Hazel. The two phones share similar hardware features, with the only difference being their screens and the form of the device. The Elm is a candy bar phone while the Hazel is a slider phone with a larger screen and more color capacity. Both devices are 3G HSPA capable and have 5 mega pixel cameras (with Auto focus and LED flash) as well as 320 x 240 pixel resolution screens.

The phones will be launching separately in 2010; the Elm will be out around the first quarter and the Hazel will follow in the second quarter of the year.

Sony Ericsson Xperia PurenessThe Sony Ericsson Xperia Pureness was unveiled in September (for more information, check out some more Sony Ericsson Xperia Pureness Reviews here). We got our hands on it, so let’s have a look at it.

The most quirky part of the phone is the display. The display is clearly what you expect from Sony Ericsson – top class resolution and really crisp. However, the best part is that the display itself is transparent. It feels more like looking through a tinted glass, expect that this ‘glass’ is capable of displaying text, videos, images and, surprisingly, even games. The only disadvantage that we could think about of the display is the fact that there are no colours, though this didn’t seem like too much of a big issue for us.

As far as the looks of the phone are concerned, the other parts of the phone consists of a glossy black keypad. The keypad is touch – sensitive and light up when you press one of the buttons. Right under the display are the call button, the center and the cancel buttons. The volume increase and volume reduce buttons are located on either side of these 3 keys. When looking at the side, the charger port is present, as is the SIM card slot. The back of the phone reveals the behind of the display as well as the power button, which is quite small.

Other than the quirky display and the cool keypad, the other things which are interesting about the phone are the battery and the memory storage. The phone has an internal memory of just 100 MB, but it can be expanded to 2 GB, which should be more than enough to store about 500 MP3 songs. The phone’s battery is, again, quirky in that it is a built – in battery. The reason for this could possibly be that SE wanted to avoid using a battery cover!

The phone is set to be released in November this year for 640 pounds but no word yet about the Pureness on contract.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10While Sony-Ericsson remained mum about its release for now, more leaks have been tipped to consumers expecting an addition to the smartphone market. A picture of the handset here and there, talks in the mobile phone industry about Sony Ericsson gearing for its release later this year or early in 2010, and continuing buzz about improved features. Who can refute that something is indeed cooking at the company’s lab?

Dubbed as the Xperia X3, pictures and talks of the new android handset from Sony Ericsson signaled an impending release of the device. With its specifications already known to many, still more are thrilled of any improvement to its 1GHz Snapdragon processor and four-inch widescreen display. Such features tipped to consumers could mean that Xperia X3 would be the topmost specified android handset among its long-ago and recently released competition.

Other specifications expected would be the 8megapixel camera boasting of the Cybershot making, a strong feature that attracts customers. Existing smartphone and mid-range units from Sony Ericsson are known to have great camera features, so Xperia X3 is expected to top them all and the rest of the smartphones in the market today. That is, when it comes to using handsets for picture-taking.

The new packaging of this android is expected to enliven the market shares of Sony Ericsson which is largely perceived as declining amid stiff competition and poor sales.

While the United Kingdom awaits announcement of its release, the buzz about Xperia X3 seem to be generating wider interest by the day. Not to be left out are “tipster’s projections” about Sony Ericsson’s preparations for the unveiling of its new unit. Even a November unveiling has been talked about and tweeted as well. If so, then it should make a good bite to the Christmas rush.

The Sony Ericsson Aino is one of the new phones to hit the market sometime in the fourth quarter of this year. Designed from the outset to be around multimedia, this device can easily connect to your computer of even to your PS3 without any problem. You should be able to stream content from wherever you want to.

The Sony Ericsson Aino feature a slider form factor with a touch screen on the front face. This large 3 inch display is top class as it allows you to view all your media with high detail. The body of the phone is made from this white casing which looks really good. The black line at the top of the phone is in a glossy black material which extends to the headphones as well.

Any internet connection will do for you if you want to stream music or videos. You can even watch live TV on the Sony Ericsson Aino ! The Remote Play feature on a PSP has been replicated on this phone making it seem a direct competitor to the PSP! The user interface of this device is really good contributing to an excellent overall user experience almost as good as using the iPhone.

The technology of the Sony Ericsson is targeted towards providing a decent user interface. On the downside, appearance, the user interface is really not revolutionary as it is not that much different from recent phones. Even worse is that you can only use the touch screen in media mode, and the keypad for most of the other functions.

The camera is really good as it has an 8 MP resolution. This, along with the fact that you can focus on an object by just touching it on the screen, and that you can interact with the screen by gesturing, makes the phone simply fantastic!

There are many Sony Ericsson Aino deals to be had but with so many to choose from it can be hard finding the right deal for your personal needs. Thats why websites such as Moby1 are so good as they can compare the many offers in an instant saving you a lot of leg-work.

Ah, the age old debate… well, the years’ old debate: who to believe: the person who’s made something and is trying to sell it, or the person who has nothing invested in either its success or failure.

Rather a one-sided debate, we’ll agree, but one that’s certainly always amusing to watch from the sidelines. Step forward the contenders on either side of the fight ring that has been erected around the Sony Ericsson Jalou. In the red corner (booo, goes the crowd, boooo) we have the suitably named villain Charles Hunt, head designer on the Sony Ericsson Jalou over at Sony Ericsson. Let’s call him C, for short. Mr C Hunt. Then in the blue corner (wooooo, woooooo!) we have a selection of slightly overweight, scruffy but intelligible online bloggers and Sony Ericsson Jalou reviewers. Oh, and it’s C Hunt coming in with the first punch:

“Structured forms, intricate corners, hidden depths and jewel accents are set to be some of the hottest fashion trends in 2010. You can also expect to see deep and natural jewel colours on the runway next year.”

The bloggers corners ducks and the wild, almost surreal attempt at a punch goes miles wide. Good lord, look at this, C Hunt coming straight back for another effort:

“Packed with unique features and encased in a beautiful facet-cut jewel form, it is a stylish addition to any handbag….”

Wild, crazy almost, and ducked again. Again!:

“Sony Ericsson’s latest style statement is only 73mm long – shorter than your favourite lipstick…”

The crowd booing ferociously as C Hunt starts to sweat and slaver, foam oozing from his fat lips as he becomesa frustrated at the complete lack of effectiveness of what he thought would be the Jalou’s killer blows.

Then, what’s this, the bloggers have discussed something, argued a bit, and are now shoving forward one of their ranks to do something. He’s opening his mouth, wait for it…

“I believe this might be the worst thing I’ve ever seen today. And this is coming from a man who this morning watched two turtles having sex.”

BOOM! There is is! C Hunt is flawed! The crowd goes wild. Truth wins out! World Order is retained… phew.
