Since then, it has amassed a considerable amount of rave reviews which all send their praises towards this remarkable device. We must agree; the Desire is definitely one of the best. However, it isn’t perfect. Below are some aspects of the device that might need some fine-tuning before the Desire is deemed as THE Smartphone for 2010.

The Upside

Before anything else, we must give credit where it is due. There are more than a few things that we like about the HTC Desire. For starters, the 3.7” touch screen displays delivers vivid images of the highest quality (480 x 800 pixels). Then there’s the HTC Sense user interface on the device which makes the Android Eclair even better than it already is. Another notable feature is the web browser on the Desire which is pretty fast and also has Flash support. It’s also worth pointing out that the HTC Desire deals currently on offer are very impressive.

The Downside

As mentioned before, the HTC Desire is a pretty awesome device. However, this doesn’t mean that it does not have its own flaws. One of the biggest criticisms of the device is that although its AMOLED display delivers high resolution image outputs, it’s actually quite difficult to see when your outdoors and once the sun’s glare hits it. Also, some of the widgets on the device may need a few adjustments here and there. To some, the Android still appear to be a bit too geeky and the physical design of the device doesn’t quite match the appeal of the HTC Legend.

Final Judgement

The HTC Desire packs in all the features you’d expect from a Smartphone. This in itself should be enough to make it a contender as one of the best of the year. Its awesome interface backed up by a powerful processor guarantees an enhanced user experience. While it may lack the sexiness of the Legend or perhaps even the iPhone, the Desire is still worth a second look.

If there is one thing that has been the constant bane of all tech fans –it is the delays. With new updates, patches, products, releases and all things happening, it is already hard to keep track of what is new and what is not –having a company delay their update certainly makes things a lot harder to keep up with.

Take this case for instance. It was already stated that the Nexus One Froyo update was coming out last week and the HTC Desire would be getting updated this week. All well and good, but it seems that Google has decided to put in some strategic delays to the launch. Sure, we are getting a great final build of the Android 2.2 Froyo, but the OS has been sitting in Google’s developer shelves for quite some time now.

Even Adobe was pretty fast with the launch of the Flash Player for the Android 2.2 –the software came out days ahead of the Nexus One 2.2 update launch.

This leaves us with the HTC Desire, an impressive smart phone that some would even say rivals the Google Nexus One in terms of both specs and features. Not surprisingly too, HTC manufactured both devices, and HTC is considered to be playing a key role in the development of the Android OS.

The Desire’s main tech specs will certainly sound familiar to the owners of the Android Nexus One –the 5 mega pixel camera, a 3.7 inch AMOLED touch screen display, a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU; these pretty much reads out like the Nexus’ own specs and the reason for this is that HTC made the two devices one after the other. Actually, it was the Desire (then known as the HTC Bravo) that was designed first.

With the launch date of the HTC Desire’s Android update pushed, this means that other smart phones will have to wait longer too.

T-Mobile Android devices are now available on the mobile network operator’s website. While originally announced for an April release date, the HTC Desire and XPERIA X10 have been long awaited for by Android fans and this announcement by HTC is sure to make plenty of people happy.

The lead in release time however is not that much. Despite the fact that you can already purchase the device as early as right now, the phones will not be shipped until a matter of days. The HTC Desire will have a waiting period of 7 days prior to shipping while the XPERIA X10 goes out after 10 days.

Both devices can be obtained for free under the £35 monthly tariffs. The plan is good for two years and offers some pretty good monthly allowances for calls and text messages. The plan will give subscribers up to 1200 minutes and 500 text messages for the HTC Desire and 500 messages and 900 minutes for the XPERIA X10. Both will get unlimited internet and free flexible boosters.

The Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 may be the first Android smart phone from the joint venture, but it comes with some rather impressive specifications. First off, the phone will be running on a 1GHz Snapdragon processor for fast load times and seamless animations. As shown with the new Sony Timescape tool, the device is able to run dynamic visuals without skipping a beat. The 4 inch capacitive TFT touch screen display deliver high quality images at 480 x 854 pixels of resolution. Lastly, the device comes packed with an 8 mega pixel camera.

The HTC Desire also runs on the 1GHz Snapdragon processor. Much like the Nexus One, this phone comes with a 5 mega pixel camera and a 3.7 inch AMOLED capacitive touch screen. The device has an extra feature or recording videos in 720p.

Here’s a quick wrap up of all the interesting headlines that appeared last week:

First off, the Mobile World Congress held last February 14 at Barcelona, Spain finally ended with many attendees bearing witness to new releases and upcoming devices. Microsoft was the unexpected star of the show with their presentation of the new Windows Phone 7 series mobile platform. Though their newly released Windows Mobile 6.5.3 Maldives did appear on the Sony Ericsson Aspen; the big star was their work in progress, WP7.

Not only did the platform get a new name, it also changes everything we knew about Windows Mobile –in a good way. Many are now looking forward to the recently announced October release date for the OS.

Sony Ericsson just unveiled several new mobile phones in the form of the XPERIA X10 Mini, X10 Mini Pro and the Vivaz Pro. While many are already familiar with the Snapdragon Android XPERIA X10 and the Symbian HD recording smart phone Vivaz; the new X10 Mini and Mini Pro sports a half sized, watered down version of the X10. The “Pro” phones are similar to their namesakes in terms of specs, but also come with slide out QWERTY keyboards.

HTC also made several new announcements. First off, the HTC Bravo was now renamed as the HTC Desire. Both the Desire and the HTC Legend are expected to be released this coming March. No word has been given regarding the upcoming HTC Scorpion.

Lastly, we’ll take another look at Microsoft as it was just confirmed that the European Regulators have approved of the tie up between Microsoft and Yahoo! No word yet as to what this means for the tech industry, but we can expect to see something new later this year.
All in all it has been a very successful event that has brought to the spotlight some major chunks of news.

Let us start out with the simple news. Sony Ericsson just beefed up their lineup with the new XPERIA X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro smart phones. These Android devices is Sony’s venture into low price range markets as their high end devices are not selling much in terms of quantity. The X10 Mini Pro has an extra feature: a slide out physical QWERTY keyboard perfect for users who like sending messages and like good phones.

HTC also had its own big reveal, but more of existing devices. The Desire and the Legend will be coming out this March. The Desire was originally named as the HTC Bravo and it served as the basis for the Nexus One smart phone. The Desire comes with a 1GHz Snapdragon processor and a 3.7 inch AMOLED capacitive touch screen. HTC Hero Legend keeps hiding away.

The big news of the event came from Microsoft as they unveiled the Windows Mobile Phone 7 operating system onstage. Many expected the device to conk out a BSOD warning page. Instead, the new mobile OS reinvented everything we thought were standards for smart phones.

Features such as support for multi touch and gestures are present. Zune, Bing and Xbox Live Games will be available for the Windows Phone 7. So far, no titles of games have been announced for the WP7 when it launches this holiday season. Lastly, HTC has confirmed news that they will be creating the next WP7 device.

If you have been browsing around Amazon Germany’s website, then you might have chanced upon the new HTC Desire being sold for 419 Euros.

It was a fluke that occurred for a while before Amazon spotted the errant page and quickly put it down. Looks like they are having the product pages ready so that once the device is available, the selling can begin.

In any case, it is not surprising to know that it will be available on Amazon Germany; the device has already been tagged as to be available in Europe. Even the HTC Legend was spotted in Netherland’s KPN site. What is interesting is that the price has already been set. This is the first time anyone has shown the price for the Desire and it is pretty compelling. This will certainly make the HTC phone a more viable choice than the Nexus One.

The HTC Desire was originally named as the HTC Bravo. This device served as the basis for the Google Phone Nexus One. It comes with a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, a 3.7 inch AMOLED capacitive touch screen and a 5 mega pixel camera with D1 video recording capabilities. The new name was given when the device appeared last weekend at the Mobile World Congress held at Barcelona, Spain.

Along with the Desire, HTC also showed off the new Android Legend. This smart phone comes with an aluminum casing, a Qualcomm 600 MHz processor, a 3.2 inch AMOLED touch screen and a 5 mega pixel camera. The device is intended to be the successor to the successful HTC Hero Android smart phone. Both the Legend and the Desire first appeared last year when the 2010 roadmap for HTC was leaked. The two devices are expected to be released later this March.
